News of the Week (8/2/2021-8/8/2021)

Miscellaneous

How has your week been?

I had the opportunity to go to the office to work for the first time in about two years, but because I’m used to working from home, I got two or three times more tired than usual and it took me a while to recover. It’s easy to take a snack or a break when I work from home, but it’s difficult to do so when I work in an office, and I felt strangely tense and mentally tired.

There are plans to adopt a hybrid system of working from home and coming to the office in the future, but in my case, I think it would be better to work mainly from home and come to the office as needed, considering the efficiency aspect.

Now, as usual, I would like to introduce some news that I personally found interesting this week.

Proof of Vaccination Becomes Mandatory in New York

At a press conference on August 3, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that employees and customers of indoor facilities, such as restaurants, gyms, and recreational facilities, will be required to show proof of vaccination against the COVID-19.

This new rule will be implemented on August 16 and is expected to become mandatory on September 13.

It appears that the only acceptable proof of vaccination will be a paper vaccination record (CDC Card/Official Vax Record), Excelsior Pass App, or NYC COVID Safe App.

There are some shady private vaccination apps out there these days that are designed to get your personal information, so be sure to use the official apps listed above!

AI Generates Master Face for Face Recognition Breakthrough

On August 1, a research team from Tel Aviv University in Israel announced that they have developed an AI that generates master faces that can break through more than 40% of facial recognition.

The research team reports that only nine face images are enough to break through 40-60% of facial recognition, stating that facial recognition has been shown to be extremely vulnerable even in the absence of information about the target’s identity.

In recent years, facial recognition systems have been used to unlock smartphones and PCs, making security verification much easier, but on the other hand, concerns about intrinsic security have been growing.

As the world becomes more and more convenient, there will be people who will abuse it, and the endless cat-and-mouse game will continue.

Food Report: Frida Midtown

This week, I would like to introduce Frida Midtown, a Mexican-Peruvian restaurant in Midtown East.

I ordered the guacamole, burrito, and a Latin American pudding-like dessert called Flan, which is part of the Prefixe menu.

As you might be able to tell from the arrangement of the dish in the photo, they took great care in the appearance of the dish, and the atmosphere of the restaurant itself was very stylish!

I enjoyed the guacamole which had a lemon flavor that was different from what I usually eat. I had never tasted Flan before, but it definitely satisfied my sweet tooth.

The employees were very friendly, so if you are looking for a trendy Mexican restaurant, why don’t you try it?

Postscript

This week, I played tennis for the first time in about a month, and I was surprised to find that my physical strength and tennis skills have dropped more than I expected.

I thought that my physical strength would be fine since I usually ride a bike around, but it seems that my tennis physical strength and my bike physical strength are two different things.

The USTA Flex League will be held next month, so I’ll be practicing as much as I can to improve my skills and physical strength before then.

Well, I hope you all have a great week next week!
