News of the Week (7/26/2021-8/1/2021)

Miscellaneous

How has your week been? I was as busy as ever at work this week, but I could spend relaxing and stress relieving weekend by going to Little Island, reading books at a cafe, and talked with precious people.

As usual, I’d like to share with you some news that I personally found interesting this week.

Real Iron Man

The mysterious jetpacked human (a.k.a. Iron Man) who was spotted at an altitude of 6,000 feet (1,829 km) near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) last year in a series of sightings was seen again by a Boeing 747 pilot on July 28.

Currently, there seems to be no such a product in the market that makes a human be able to go to an altitude of more than 1km and come back safely, and it is thought to be most likely a humanoid drone, but its identity is still unknown and very interesting.

The following video was taken on December 21, 2020 at 900 meters above Palos Verdes, about a 30-minute drive from LAX.

Stock Market Trend

This week, the stock market had a rough week.

One of the main reasons for this was the tightening of the clampdown on the private education industry in accordance with the education reform plan announced by the Chinese government on July 24, which banned the establishment of for-profit tutoring schools and the initial listing of tutoring schools, and the registration of existing schools as non-profit organizations.

As a result, there was a widespread sell-off in the Chinese stock market, not only in education-related stocks but also in high-tech stocks, and the market capitalization of related stocks seems to have blown away a total of about 1 trillion dollars since February, and the stock prices of Chinese companies listed in the US fell sharply in tandem.

In addition, the U.S. market was rocked by the release of quarterly financial results this week.

Crypt Currency Market Trend

At the beginning of this week, there was a report that Amazon would introduce bitcoin payments, and the crypt currency market, which had been cooling down, came back to life, rising to the $40,000 level for BTC.

Initial reports suggested that bitcoin payments could be introduced to Amazon by the end of the year, but Amazon denied the reports through its PR, saying, “Notwithstanding our interest in the space, the speculation that has ensued around our specific plans for cryptocurrencies is not true.”

The company denied that it will introduce the service within this year, but the answer is implied, so we may soon be able to purchase Amazon products with crypt currency.

CDC Reassurance to Wear Masks

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced about two months ago that vaccinated people do not need to wear masks indoors, but on July 27, in response to the rampage of the highly contagious new COVID-19 mutation virus, the Delta strain, the CDC again recommended that even vaccinated people wear masks in public indoor spaces, even in areas where the infection is spreading.

Food Report: Molly’s Pub and Restaurant Shebeen

This week, I’m going to introduce you to Molly’s Pub and Restaurant Shebeen, an Irish pub in Midtown East.

This time, I ordered the “Corned Beef & Cabbage”.

I don’t usually go to pubs, but I suddenly wanted to try this dish for the first time in a while, so I went there for that purpose.

The food itself was great, but the waitresses were extremely friendly and satisfying!

Sat-Sun, 12:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Postscript

This weekend, I went to Little Island for the first time, as I mentioned in the beginning.

On that day, Little Island was having a free jazz concert, and I was able to enjoy live music for the first time in a long time. After that, I went to Bryant Park, where there was also a free concert, and it was a weekend filled with music.

I also celebrated my birthday this Sunday, so I will be even more determined to reach my goals.

I wish you all a great week next week!
