News of the Week (5/17/2021-5/23/2021)

Miscellaneous

How did you spend this week? New York is getting hot like summer!

I would like to introduce some news that I was interested in this week.

Microsoft Teams Releases a Personal Version

On May 17, Microsoft released a personal version of Microsoft Teams for PC, mobile apps, and the web.

The main purpose of the personal version is video calls and chats with family and friends. For free, you can use one-on-one video calls up to 24 hours and group calls of 3 people or more for up to 60 minutes.

There is a great news! Due to the pandemic, they decided to expand the free function. Now, we can use up to 24 hours of calls for free of charge for up to 300 people during the campaign period.

I’ve been using the paid version of Zoom for video calls when I talk with my friends in Japan, but I’m going to switch to Microsoft Teams for a while.

It is yet to be determined how long the campaign period will last.

Transfers of ,000 or More in Encrypt Currency to Be Required to Be Reported

On May 20, the U.S. Treasury Department issued a report urging people who transfer $10,000 or more of any cryptocurrency need to report the transaction to the Internal Revenue Service.

According to the Treasury Department, the bill could generate $700 billion in tax revenue growth over the next decade with the aim of curbing crimes such as tax evasion.

Anti-Hate Crime Act for Asians Passed by U.S. House of Representatives

On May 18, the U.S. Congress passed a bill calling on the federal government to strengthen its effort to take response in the recent increase in hate crimes against Asians.

The bill requires the Department of Justice to establish a new post governing hate crimes, develop guidelines for gathering information from state and local, and strengthen awareness efforts.

I hope that the world can be changed and people can respect each other more and more without any discrimination, including racial discrimination.

Cryptocurrency Market Crash

Starting with Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency market is currently crashing.

In the background of the crash, the influence of Elon Mask’s remarks was also very high, but it seems that the timing of china’s regulation of cryptocurrency and cash sales for tax payment overlapped.

Food Report: Pio Pio

This week, I met my colleagues for the first time in about a year and went to Pio Pio, which serves Peruvian cuisine.

The three of us ordered “Matador Combo” in the photo!

The combo was served with roasted chicken, avocado salad, yellow rice and red bean, sausages and fries platter called Salchipapa, and a fried sliced banana called Tostones.

All dishes tasted really great and satisfied all our stomachs, so I recommend that you order Matador Combo when you visit Pio Pio with a large number of people.
