News of the Week (6/14/2021-6/20/2021)

Miscellaneous

It’s been a hot week in New York! How did you spend this week?

As my weekly routine, I tend to go to a park to be surrounded by nature and have a relaxing time on the weekends, but this weekend, I visited the Green at the Lincoln Center and basked in the sun by lying down on artificial nature.

Well, as usual, I would like to introduce the news that I was personally interested in this week.

NY and CA Lifted Nearly All COVID-19 Restrictions

On June 15, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo immediately lifted COVID-19 restrictions on businesses and social settings in response to a 70% vaccination rate for adults.

While masks will continue to be worn in schools, public transportation, and medical facilities as recommended by the CDC, there is no longer a need to limit the number of people in buildings, social distance, disinfect procedures, temperature inspections, and provide contact information for tracking.

Similarly, California’s inoculation rate exceeded a certain number, so almost all restrictions were lifted.

The COVID-19 has changed the way Manhattan looks, but now it’s almost regaining its former vibrancy.

In addition, it is concerned that the vaccine not only prevents the onset of COVID-19 but also if the person who completes the vaccination becomes an asymptomatic patient and infects others with the virus without knowing it, but according to the CDC data, it seems that it is very rare for the vaccinated person to be infected by the COVID-19.

New National Holiday on Anniversary of Abolition of Slavery

On June 15, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bill that would make June 19, the Juneteenth (the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the country), a national holiday.

Black Lives Matter, a protest against racism sparked by the case of George Floyd, a black man who died in the beating of a white police officer, obviously promoted the legislation for the holiday.

Juneteenth commemorates the abolition of slavery in Texas in 1865, following the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation of all enslaved people by former President Abraham Lincoln, and it has been a state holiday in Texas since 1980.

Obamacare Will Continue

On June 17, the U.S. Supreme Court dismissed a Republican appeal for the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as the Obamacare, to be implemented under the administration of former Democratic President Barack Obama.

Former Republican President Donald Trump made disabling Obamacare one of his campaign promises during the presidential election, and Republicans had insisted that the provision on health insurance enrollment was unconstitutional and that the entire system should be invalid.

The other day, I wrote an article about the U.S. health insurance system, and the Obamacare penalized uninsured people, but the amount of penalties was set at $0 under former President Trump’s administration in 2017.

I’d like to see if the amount of penalties fluctuates with this decision.

Food Report: Cafe Mogador

This week, I am going to introduce Cafe Mogador, a Moroccan restaurant.

I ordered Lamb Shank Moroccan Tagines with Stewed Apricot & Prunes.

The lamb was simmered so that it could be melted in my mouth, and the apricot and prune sauce was sweet and salty and went well with it.

The couscous was also a light seasoning that was just right for side dish.

Tagine means a pot with a lid like a pointed hat, and couscous is the smallest pasta in the world.

Both are rooted to the Berber people, who are indigenous people of North Africa.

The customer service of the restaurant was also satisfying.

Postscript

I had a very busy weekday with a lot of work to do this week, but I had a good week, winning a singles match in a tennis league, relaxing in the nature, visiting artworks, and going to one of Starbucks Reserve Roasteries, which are only six stores in the world.

In addition, using a work management tool called Asana, I was able to review the annual schedule of work, the development of tasks, the time period and due date setting, etc., so I am looking forward to it a little from next week.

I’d like to check the usability of Asana a little more before going to write an article about it, but so far, I’m very happy because it’s going to be a pretty useful tool for my life at the moment.

So, may next week be a good week for you!
